In the Naxal-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, a fierce encounter broke out on Friday morning between security forces and Naxals. According to police officials, the skirmish began in the dense and hilly forests of the Bhairamgarh–Indravati region as a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team embarked on an anti-Naxal operation.
Intelligence inputs alerted the police to the presence of Maoist cadres in the area. Acting on this tip-off, security forces launched a search operation. While scouting the forest during the morning, Naxals initiated gunfire on the security forces, prompting a return of fire. Intermittent exchanges of gunfire have persisted.
Three Naxals had been eliminated in Sukma
Officials report that given the area's challenging topography, additional caution is being exercised during the operation. Security personnel have encircled the entire region to deny the Naxals any chance of escaping. An alert has been issued in the surrounding regions in light of the ongoing encounter.
Just a day before, on Thursday, an encounter between security forces and Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district led to the elimination of three Naxals, including one female. According to the police, the slain Naxals had a total bounty of 1.2 million Rupees on their heads. This confrontation occurred in a Naxal-prone area within Sukma, where Maoist activities have been reported for a long time.
Operations continue in Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada
Security agencies elaborate that the state has intensified its anti-Naxal campaigns. Increased deployment and activity in districts like Bijapur, Sukma, Dantewada, and Narayanpur are putting pressure on the Naxals, causing them to make attempts at targeting security forces.
