In an exclusive discussion with Aaj Tak, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delved into the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, comparing pre-GST rates with current improvements and addressing queries on every point. She described it as the country's manifesto and countered opposition allegations. She advised them to do their homework before commenting on GST.

Addressing how GST reforms will assist in promoting women's small enterprises, the Finance Minister highlighted the government's policy-driven incentives and empowerment initiatives for women, stating that a special category has been created for them.

She pointed out that over half of the participants in the MUDRA loan scheme are women. The Finance Minister mentioned existing and upcoming schemes for women entrepreneurs, further elaborating that initiatives like 'Drone Didi' and 'Lakhpati Didi' are specifically designed for empowering rural women.

The Finance Minister stated that purchasing decisions by women, such as buying soap or sarees, are beyond the tax system's scope. Solutions for this come through strategic plans. She explained that decisions regarding including petrol, diesel, and natural gas in GST should emanate from the states.

The Finance Minister also expressed readiness to implement GST-related legal frameworks. The GST Council has not addressed these topics, but the uniform tax rates were inspired by pre-existing state tax rates. Companies have assured that rate cuts under GST will benefit consumers.
