The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched an early morning raid at the residence of Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki. During the operation, the CCTV connection was intentionally severed. The raid was executed by a team of officials from the Lucknow zone on Thursday morning. ED took action at Irfan Solanki's residence in Jajmau.
An ED team also raided the home of Irfan Solanki's brother, Arshad Solanki, where an interrogation is currently underway. The team has shut down the CCTV operations within the MLA's compound.
Could Not Vote in the Rajya Sabha Elections
Please note that Kanpur's SP MLA Irfan Solanki has been incarcerated for the past year. He has been accused by a woman of setting fire to a plot with intentions of seizing it. Irfan Solanki is currently involved in over 17 filed cases. During the Rajya Sabha elections, Solanki's plea to vote was dismissed by the court.
The Trial Court Dismissed the Plea
Irfan Solanki's lawyer, Mohammad Asif Khan, had filed a petition in the MP-MLA court requesting permission for Solanki to vote in the Rajya Sabha elections. Citing Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren's case as an example, the lawyer appealed for similar permission to be granted to Irfan. However, Government Advocate Bhaskar Mishra countered that Irfan's petition seemed like a request for parole or short-term bail, which isn't within the trial court's jurisdiction to decide. Subsequently, the court dismissed the plea.
Also Facing Charges of Electoral Code Violation
In addition to the arson case, Solanki also faces charges of violating the electoral code of conduct within the Karnalganj police station jurisdiction. The police have already submitted the charge sheet and witnesses in this case, with a verdict expected soon. In addition to this case, dozens of other lawsuits are filed against Irfan Solanki.
