On Saturday, regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northern Pakistan experienced a significant 5.3 magnitude earthquake. The tremors were strongly felt across areas such as Peshawar, Chitral, Upper Dir, Mardan, Khyber, Malakand, Swat, and Mohmand. The intensity led to widespread panic, with residents rushing out of their homes for safety.
Preliminary reports suggest the earthquake's epicenter was located in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region, with an estimated depth of 230 kilometers. Fortunately, there have been no major reports of damage or casualties at this time. However, local administration has heightened vigilance as a precautionary measure.
According to Pakistani media, local residents reported feeling tremors for several seconds, which also disrupted electricity supplies in some areas.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that the previous night, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported in other parts of the Balochistan province, including Quetta. The epicenter was situated 160 kilometers northwest of Quetta.
