In a significant development from Durg district in Chhattisgarh, two women have been taken into custody for allegedly forcing religious conversions. Identified as Sarika Dadinge and Priyanka Simon, they were reportedly going door-to-door in the Purani Bhilai area, coercing individuals into changing their faiths. An incident involving them pressuring a home with a disabled resident led to the police intervention. Following an official complaint, the Purani Bhilai police promptly acted and arrested the two suspects.

According to available information, on February 1, 2026, a 36-year-old complainant, Rukmani, approached the police with a report. Working as a domestic helper, Rukmani Pandey registered that on January 25, 2026, two unknown women visited her residence, pushing her to embrace Christianity with promises of illness cures and financial support. When Rukmani showed no interest, they left.

On the same day, Sarika Dadinge and Priyanka Simon revisited Rukmani’s home. They attempted to lure her into Christianity, offering support for reading the Bible and her daughter’s marriage. However, Rukmani and her family opposed their advances. Consequently, she filed a report at the Purani Bhilai police station.

Police Take Action in Response

The Purani Bhilai police registered a case against the women. During their investigation, they arrested 42-year-old Sarika Dadinge and 33-year-old Priyanka. ASP and spokesperson of Durg police, Manishankar Chandra, stated that a woman lodged a complaint at the Thana, accusing the duo of trying to convert her religious beliefs.

The police, in a proactive approach, arrested the accused women, placing them on remand. Further investigations continue into the matter.
