The debate on the Waqf Amendment Bill is ongoing in the Lok Sabha. SP President and Kannauj MP, Akhilesh Yadav, also participated in the discussion and took a dig at the BJP. Akhilesh humorously questioned why the BJP has yet to elect its president. His remarks were made with a smile, as he challenged the government.
In response to Akhilesh's statement, Home Minister Amit Shah intervened, remarking, since Akhilesh asked the question with a smile, I would like to answer it in the same manner. Regarding the election of the party president, the Home Minister said, let me explain the process. Here, the parties have family members electing presidents, whereas in our party, the president is chosen from millions. At this, Akhilesh smiled and greeted the sentiment.
What did Amit Shah say in response to Akhilesh's question?
Akhilesh Yadav took a playful jab, claiming, it’s the biggest party, yet they can't elect a president. Amit Shah, with a laugh, replied to Akhilesh Yadav. Shah said, we have to consult millions to select a president. The parties across us choose a president among five family members. Akhilesh Yadav might remain president for the next 25 years.
In the talk over the Waqf Bill, Akhilesh Yadav commented, another bill for a large population has come. He agreed with many points raised by Ravi Shankar Prasad and mentioned those who are ex-Congress are speaking more. As far as I can comprehend the presented bill, the Minister hopes this one – Unified Waqf. This bill is introduced amidst BJP’s contest over who is the bigger adversary of the Hindus.
Akhilesh further mentioned, a party claiming to be the largest in the world still can’t choose a national president. What is BJP then? To this, Home Minister Amit Shah said, Akhilesh, you joked with a smile; I am answering with a smile. You choose a president within five people, the family. We take time as we select from millions. I'm suggesting you be the president for 25 more years. Akhilesh responded that the Waqf Bill is a screen to hide failures - like the demonetization, blame that too. Failures in unemployment, inflation, doubling farmers' income, which didn't happen.
