Monsoon's early arrival in the southern states has waned, impacting northern and eastern India with oppressive heat. The nation's capital, Delhi, is among the affected areas. The scorching temperatures here have already soared beyond 46 degrees Celsius. No significant respite is anticipated in the coming days. However, light showers on June 14 might offer slight relief.

Delhi anticipates mild respite with today's sprinkles!

According to the meteorological department, Delhi is likely to experience partially cloudy skies today with chances of light drizzle and thunderstorms. High-speed surface winds could intermittently lead to heatwave conditions. Nonetheless, there seems to be no relief from the soaring temperatures with the mercury expected to hit 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. However, strong winds might bring temporary comfort to Delhiites.

The heatwave keeps its grip for now

It's noteworthy that the heatwave is expected to persist in Delhi until June 19. The IMD has already issued an orange alert for the city. A shift in conditions is anticipated post-June 19 with the advancement of the monsoon which may bring relief to the region. However, the onset of the monsoon is still a ways off for Delhi. Latest updates suggest Delhi might receive monsoon showers between June 27 and 30, providing full respite from the heatwave.

Yesterday's mercury surged past 46 degrees Celsius

Yesterday (June 13), the highest temperature in Delhi's Ridge area was recorded at 46.3 degrees Celsius. Following that, Ayanagar experienced 46.4, Palam 45.8, and Safdarjung 44.8 degrees Celsius. The upper regions of the country are battling with the heatwave due to delayed monsoon conditions. States like UP, Haryana, Jharkhand, Delhi, Punjab, and northern Rajasthan recorded temperatures ranging from 45 to 47 degrees Celsius. Even mountainous states like Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh are struggling with the heat.
