The heavy showers on Tuesday unveiled the stark reality of Delhi's monsoon preparations yet again. Many areas were transformed into waterlogged zones, with underpasses submerged, bringing the city's traffic to a standstill.
Within hours, the relentless rainstorm turned the cityscape. While it was a relief from the oppressive heat, flooding and traffic jams quickly added to the woes. Dhaula Kuan and adjoining routes were notably affected.
A significant traffic gridlock extended from Dhaula Kuan towards the Airport and Gurgaon. Vehicles were seen crawling due to significant waterlogging, and many found themselves stuck for hours on end. Local residents expressed frustration, noting that the situation recurs annually with no permanent solution in sight.

The Outer Ring Road near Munirka witnessed severe waterlogging, causing challenges not just for drivers but also for pedestrians.
The underpasses leading from Dhaula Kuan towards Palam and Dwarka suffered the worst conditions. Water levels rose so high that several cars stalled, leading to jokes that the underpass resembled a swimming pool more than a commute route.
Despite prior promises of cleaning drains and tackling waterlogging before the monsoon, the reality unfolded with the first rain. The capital's streets were plagued by water and traffic.
Commuters from Dhaula Kuan lamented that this is a recurring scenario. Despite planning ahead, reaching the airport becomes a Herculean task due to congestion and waterlogged streets.
