The Delhi High Court has reserved its order on the petition demanding a session of the Assembly for presenting the CAG report. On Thursday, Justice Sachin Datta, after hearing senior lawyers representing petitioners, the Speaker, and the Delhi government, reserved the decision.
Last year, opposition leaders Vijender Gupta, BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai, and Jitendra Mahajan filed a petition seeking court directions for the Speaker to convene a meeting for presenting the CAG report.
The government is delaying the report presentation
The Speaker and the government opposed the petition filed by opposition leaders. The government responded that there is no urgency in presenting the report, stating that the Delhi Assembly elections are imminent, and the presentation serves no immediate purpose.
Meanwhile, senior lawyers for the petitioners accused the AAP government in Delhi of delay on the matter.
High Court's stern remarks
Previously, the High Court made stern remarks against the Delhi government for procrastinating the CAG report presentation in the Assembly. The Secretariat of Delhi Assembly stated that presenting the CAG report achieves no objective and mentioned that the Assembly’s term ends in February, thus precluding the passing of judicial orders on internal matters.
