Delhi's Scorching Weekend: Heatwave to Cliff-Hang at 44 Degrees

Post a short rainy respite, Delhi is set to face blistering heatwaves with temperatures soaring up to 44°C. Beware of scorching conditions starting 23rd June.

The weather in India's capital, Delhi, remains pleasant since last night. With the western disturbances kicking in, strong winds commenced from the evening of 19th June and light drizzles followed. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), dusty storms accompanied by thunderstorms and light rains are likely on 20th and 21st June. However, starting 23rd June, heatwaves are expected to make a comeback, potentially prevailing until 26th June.

Delhi to be gripped by severe heat once again

From Saturday, 23rd June, the heatwave is likely to afflict the city anew, with daytime temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius. After a two-day relief, Delhiites may have to endure the onslaught of the heatwave. The IMD predicts that the maximum temperature throughout the week might fluctuate between 40 to 44 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature may linger around 29 to 31 degrees Celsius. The department suggests that until the monsoon sets in, the residents may have to cope with the heat and loo (hot winds).

Rain expected today in areas surrounding Delhi

The weather department has issued a rain alert for Delhi and neighboring areas today. Forecasts by the IMD indicate that regions such as North Delhi, Northeast Delhi, Northwest Delhi, West Delhi, Central Delhi, and parts of NCR (Loni Dehat) will experience light to moderate rain with winds blowing at a speed of 30-50 km/h. Moreover, places like Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chapraula, Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Baghpat, Khekra, Modinagar, Pilkhua, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Matanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohna, Palwal, Baraut, Baghpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Kithaur, Pilkhua, Hapur, Gulaothi, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr are also likely to receive rainfall.

Noida's weather forecast

Noida is expected to experience sprinkles along with strong winds today, i.e., 20th June. Cloud movements will persist throughout the week in Noida. The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for the city on 23rd June. During this time, day temperatures can reach up to 44 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, for the rest of the week, Noida's maximum temperature may stay between 41 to 43 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature hovering close to 30 degrees Celsius.
