Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal toured the flood-stricken regions of Delhi today. He met with many residents and heard the problems faced by those living in relief camps due to the floods. He highlighted that the central government is extending help to Afghanistan while entire North India is grappling with floods.
Speaking to the media, Kejriwal mentioned that Delhi has been experiencing flood-like conditions for days, with many areas submerged under water. Poor residents, particularly those around the Yamuna, are forced to live in government relief camps.
Meals aren't reaching people on time: Kejriwal
Further, he noted after visiting a camp that people are facing numerous hardships. Meals are not being provided on time, there is no proper mosquito control, and drinking water issues persist.
Kejriwal expressed understanding of these challenging times, but emphasized that it is the government's responsibility to address citizens' hardships.
Criticism of the Central Government
He earlier criticized the central government, questioning why aid is being sent to Afghanistan while North India battles floods. He raised concerns about why help is extended to other nations but not to flood-affected people in North India.
'Assist Punjab,' Kejriwal urges the Center
He urged the central government to extend all possible assistance to Punjab during these trying times. Kejriwal noted that when an earthquake hit Afghanistan, significant aid was dispatched, which is commendable. However, he urged that the dire situation in Punjab demands similar support from the central government.
