A brief spell of rain on Friday left most of Delhi inundated. Key AAP figures including Delhi convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj, opposition leader Atishi, and others shared videos of places like Patparganj, Sangam Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, AIIMS, Geeta Colony, Sanjay Lake, and South Delhi, hammering the BJP government. They urged BJP to trade its four engines for boats if the same trend continues. Why should Delhiites enjoy these 'amenities' alone?
Saurabh Bhardwaj sarcastically commented on the condition post-rain, highlighting how Sanjay Lake has expanded, encroaching miles of surrounding areas. With BJP claiming to increase the city's lakes, his sarcasm targeted the recent developments. Manish Sisodia was only able to build schools and a few swimming pools in Patparganj, but the BJP has supposedly turned highways into swim ways, daring citizens to test their swimming skills. CM Rekha Gupta is providing new employment avenues, having allegedly turned Patparganj into a giant pool.
Bhardwaj further noted that stagnant water compromises building foundations, leading to calamities like collapsed walls in Vasant Kunj which claimed two young lives. A ceiling collapse near Nizamuddin resulted in seven casualties, while other areas experienced fatal accidents due to weather conditions.
Concerns over Desilting and Audits
Referring to a tragic incident in Rajendra Nagar where three students perished, Bhardwaj criticized the lack of attention from higher-ups, questioning the BJP's responsibility and past actions. No current active interventions from leaders like the LG were noted, unlike in previous tragedies.
He shared a video of NH 24 in Patparganj, highlighting BJP's misleading promises regarding infrastructure readiness, worrying that these governance missteps might set Delhi back. Bhardwaj questioned potential corruption in the desilting process, calling for scrutiny via third-party audits to ensure correctness and accountability, challenging why honest work would avoid checks.
Atishi's Assault on Flood Mismanagement
AAP leader Atishi, also addressing flooding in Patparganj through video shares, questioned the effectiveness of CM Rekha Gupta's 'proper management'. Highlighting Laxmi Nagar, AIIMS, Geeta Colony, and Sanjay Lake, Atishi targeted BJP's promises and their execution.
Current Situation in Flood-Affected Areas
Using shared videos depicting varying degrees of flooding across places like South Delhi, AAP criticized BJP, mockingly likening parts of town to Venice, insinuating unclaimed credits by BJP ministers. Videos showing knee-deep water and stranded vehicles in Sangam Vihar prompted AAP to humorously advise visitors to bring life jackets.
A video portrayal of MB Road as MB River further emphasized the extent of flooding, with visible impacts over 3 to 4 feet high. AAP mocked BJP's supposed challenges to residents, questioning their preparedness for daily tests set by weather and administration.
