A sensational theft case has emerged in Dehradun, involving a daring robbery of the iPhone belonging to High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal by a Rapido driver. This incident took place on January 27 in the Rajpur police station area when the accused, Govind Sahu, arrived at Foothill Garden, Mussoorie Road, to drop off a passenger. The police used CCTV footage and technical surveillance to apprehend the criminal.
How was the theft executed?
The accused, Govind Sahu, hails from Bihar but currently resides with his family in Indira Nagar, Dehradun. Formerly a delivery boy for Zomato, he now works as a Rapido bike taxi driver. On January 26, he dropped off a passenger at Foothill Garden, Mussoorie Road. Seizing the opportunity in the crowd, he swiped the iPhone from a bag and quickly sold it to a passerby in the Ghantaghar area.

How was the accused caught by the police?
The Registrar General of the High Court, Moolchand Tyagi, filed a complaint about the theft, prompting the police to delve into the investigation. By reviewing CCTV footage, they traced the sequence of events. Technical surveillance revealed the phone's activity in Bihar. An SOG team was dispatched there, where they found a man named Khalil possessing the stolen phone.

Accused has multiple previous criminal records
During interrogation, Khalil revealed that he bought the phone from a passerby. Subsequently, the police launched a checking campaign and captured the accused, Govind Sahu. He confessed to his crime, admitting that he steals mobiles and laptops to fuel his addiction. Post-arrest, the police disclosed multiple criminal cases against Govind Sahu in Dehradun's Kotwali Nagar, Raipur police station, as well as other stations. Previously, he had been imprisoned for similar thefts. The police are currently investigating his other criminal records.
