As a sudden dust storm pushed Delhi's air into the 'severe' category, the capital's political situation escalated. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pointed fingers at the BJP's local government, while Delhi's newly appointed Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa held the previous AAP government responsible.
In a sharp tweet, Minister Sirsa wrote, 'First, you were AAP-DA for Delhi, now you seek opportunity in AAPDA. It's unfortunate that a former CM is exploiting a natural sandstorm for political gain, especially when the real fault lies in a decade of neglect under AAP's governance.'
He further stated that while today's air quality crisis might be due to weather, its roots lie in AAP's 'garbage-and-dust' governance. He wrote, 'Delhi has turned into a dumping ground. The roads are broken and covered in dust. There's no concrete policy on pollution, and every time nature reacts, AAP hides behind the weather.'
BJP Takes on the Cleanup Responsibility
Minister Sirsa also announced that the BJP government will now undertake the responsibility of cleaning up 'ten years of AAP's mess.' He said, 'We will clean every brick, every breath of ten years' filth.'
As of now, no official response has come from AAP regarding Minister Sirsa's sharp accusations. However, the party's stance has been that the drop in Delhi's air quality is due to climate change and stubble burning in neighboring states.
As the smoke and haze continue to cover Delhi's skies, the fog in the capital's politics is also deepening. Once again, pollution has become the center of a political ideological battle.
