The 27th match of the ICC T20 World Cup unfolded on a Sunday, showcasing a thrilling encounter between India and Pakistan. Team India claimed victory with a 61-run lead. The iconic R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo set the stage, where Pakistan initially won the toss and opted to bowl. India set a challenging target of 176 runs. However, the Pakistani team succumbed and was all out for 114. With this victory, Team India has also secured their spot in the Super-8.
Pakistan's Struggle at Bat
In response to India's 176, Sahibzada Farhan and Same Ayub opened for Pakistan. However, Hardik quickly dismissed Farhan without allowing him to score. Bumrah then took the charge, capturing Same Ayub's wicket for just 6 runs during his second over. By the end of two overs, Pakistan trailed at 13-3. Indian bowlers kept the pressure, as Akshar Patel bowled out Babar Azam in the 5th over when he had only scored 5. After 6 overs, Pakistan tallied 38-4.
Usman Khan and Shadab Khan managed to stabilize Pakistan's innings with a decent partnership, pushing the score to 71-4 after 10 overs. However, Akshar Patel struck again in the 11th over, disrupting the 39-run partnership by dismissing Usman for 44 runs from 34 balls. Kuldeep followed in the 12th over by dismissing Mohammad Nawaz for a mere 4. In the 13th over, Tilak Verma dismissed Shadab for 14 runs on his first ball. Varun dealt a double blow in the 16th over, dismissing Faheem for 10 and Abrar for a duck. Hardik completed the innings by taking the final wicket, ending Pakistan's challenge at 114 and extending India's World Cup lead to 8-1.
India's Batting Prowess
Team India, opting to bat first, had a rocky start as Salman Agha dismissed Abhishek off the first over without opening his account. But Eshan Kishan and Tilak Verma steadied the innings, catapulting India to 52-1 after 6 overs. Eshan played aggressively, scoring a swift 50 off 27 balls and relying on big hits. However, the 9th over saw Eshan's dismissal for a formidable 77 off 40 balls, with Same Ayub taking his wicket. Eshan's brilliant innings featured 10 fours and 3 sixes. By the 10th over, India stood at 92-2.
A worthwhile partnership followed between Captain Surya and Tilak Verma, which ended in the 15th over when Tilak was dismissed for 25. Same Ayub immediately claimed Hardik's wicket, leaving him without a run. At the end of 15 overs, India stood at 127-4. In the 19th over, Usman Tariq dismissed Captain Surya for 32. The final over saw Shivam Dube run out after a 27-run innings. Thanks to a late flourish by Rinku Singh, who smashed 11 runs off 4 balls, India wrapped up their innings at 175 for 7.
