On Tuesday, April 22, an attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, tragically claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists. This act of terrorism has cast a shadow of grief and anger across the nation. The security forces have launched an intensive search operation to apprehend the attackers, while the central government has initiated decisive actions against the neighboring country.
The Pahalgam attack has been widely condemned worldwide, with many nations raising their voices against terrorism. Following the incident, Pakistan's Deputy PM and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, made a controversial remark, labeling the attackers in Pahalgam as 'freedom fighters.'
This statement from Ishaq Dar faced criticism from former Pakistani cricketer, Danish Kaneria. Kaneria questions, 'How can a terrorist be perceived as a freedom fighter?' He perceives this as an overt admission of harboring terrorists. Notably, the terrorist group 'The Resistance Front' (TRF), a proxy for Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack.
At the age of 44, Danish Kaneria expressed on his social media, 'When Pakistan's Deputy PM terms terrorists as 'freedom fighters,' it is not just a misstep; it is an outright acknowledgment of state-sponsored terrorism.'

While speaking to journalists in Islamabad, Ishaq Dar commented that those who attacked in Pahalgam on April 22 might be freedom fighters. Prior to this, Danish Kaneria had also raised questions concerning Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's silence over the Pahalgam attack. He accused Sharif of sheltering terrorists.
In one of his posts, Danish Kaneria tagged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, asking, 'If Pakistan truly had no involvement in the Pahalgam attack, why has Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif not condemned it? Why is your military suddenly on high alert? Deep down, you know the truth. You are providing haven to these terrorists and endorsing them. Shame on you.'

Danish Kaneria, one of Pakistan’s rare Hindu cricketers, represented his country internationally. Kaneria's cousin, Anil Dalpat, has also donned the Pakistani colors. Other two of his cousins, Bharat Kumar and Mahendra Kumar, have played first-class cricket in Pakistan as well.
Kaneria’s Stellar International Record
Danish Kaneria played 61 Test matches for Pakistan, claiming 261 wickets. He stands as Pakistan's spinner with the most wickets in Test cricket. Additionally, Kaneria played eight One Day Internationals, taking 15 wickets. Over his career, Kaneria accumulated 1024 wickets in 206 first-class games. However, the ECB banned him in 2012 following allegations of spot-fixing in English County Championship pro-league matches.
