In Bihar, the Congress Party has been striving to stand on its own feet for quite some time. Now, some party leaders are openly advocating for severing ties with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and contesting elections independently.
During a Congress leaders' meeting on Friday in New Delhi, Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav openly expressed that if Congress wants to establish a strong foothold in Bihar, it must separate from the RJD.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi emphasized in the meeting that Bihar Congress leaders must take responsibility and work diligently on the ground. They need to provide a roadmap for progress in Bihar. Tariq Anwar added that merely assigning responsibility is not enough; the accountability for those responsibilities must also be clearly defined.
Some leaders suggested that forming the state committee has been pending for a long time, and it's urgently needed. The weakness in the organization has resulted in setbacks.
Are Legislators in Bihar Leaving the Party?
During this time, the party refuted reports claiming that newly-elected legislators are leaving Congress. In the recently concluded Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Congress won only six seats.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge convened the meeting at his residence, where Rahul Gandhi was also present. The meeting included Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, among other newly-elected Congress legislators and leaders from Bihar.
Pappu Yadav's Discontent Addressed
Speaking to the media post-meeting, Venugopal stated, 'Rumors were being spread that all our legislators are leaving the party, but all our legislators were present in this meeting. These reports are entirely false. Such rumors against Congress are baseless.'
According to sources, MP Pappu Yadav initially came to Kharge's residence but left, as his name was not on the initial invitation list. After discussions with Congress leaders, he returned to Kharge's residence.
