On Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping informed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that as advocates of free trade, both nations should collectively champion and practice genuine multilateralism.
These discussions took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, marking Starmer's significant visit as the first British Prime Minister in eight years to visit China.

President Xi passionately advocated for multilateralism and a rule-based international order. According to the state news agency, Xinhua, President Xi emphasized that international law is truly effective only when every country adheres to it.
Without directly naming the US, Xi stated that major nations should take the lead in respecting these norms; otherwise, the world risks descending into chaos akin to a lawless wild west.
Accompanying Starmer is a robust British delegation comprising nearly 60 of the nation's largest business and cultural organizations exploring collaboration opportunities in China. The British PM expressed optimism for forging new partnerships and seizing opportunities in China.
PM Starmer remarked, "Growth and prosperity in our country are directly linked to our engagement with the world's major powers overseas."
Britain also announced their intent to establish a new border security agreement with China, aiming to curb the flow of Chinese-manufactured small boat parts used by smuggling gangs to illegally transport migrants into the UK.
