What would the nation's mood be if the general elections were held today? Who would form the government, and who is the top choice for Prime Minister? The results of a survey addressing these questions are now out.

'Mood of the Nation' (MOTN)

survey, when asked who is their preferred choice for the next Prime Minister, 55% of the respondents favored Narendra Modi while 27% expressed support for Rahul Gandhi. In a previous survey in August 2025, 52% were in favor of Modi, and 25% for Gandhi.

In a broader query about the best Prime Minister of all time, 50% of respondents named Narendra Modi, followed by 12% each for Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Meanwhile, Manmohan Singh garnered 11% votes, and Jawaharlal Nehru was selected by 6% of people.

Furthermore, 57% of respondents are very satisfied with Narendra Modi's work as Prime Minister. While 16% rated his work as average, 24% rated it as poor. On the other hand, 52% are satisfied with the work of the NDA, while 24% are dissatisfied.

This survey took place between December 8, 2025, and January 21, 2026, and it included 36,265 individuals across various age groups, caste, religion, and gender. However, there's a margin of error of approximately 5% in these figures.

If the general elections were held in India today, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) might see its seats grow to 352. Additionally, BJP’s seats could climb to 287, suggesting it might independently form a government.

In terms of vote percentage, should the elections occur now, the NDA appears to gain a 47% vote share, India Block could get 39%, and others might receive 14%.

According to the MOTN survey, if the general elections were conducted today, what would the outcome be, and how many seats would each alliance capture? The survey predicts 352 seats for the NDA, 182 for the India Block, and 9 for others. In contrast, in the 2024 elections, the NDA secured 293 seats, and India Block received 234. The August 2025 survey estimated 324 seats for the NDA and 208 for India Block.

If elections were held today, who would receive how many votes?

In terms of alliance-wise vote share, the survey suggests the NDA could receive 47%, India Block 39%, and others 14%. In the 2024 general elections, the NDA had a 43% vote share while India Block gained 40%. The August survey estimated a 47% vote share for the NDA and 41% for India Block.

The survey also explored potential seat distributions if elections happened today: BJP is projected to receive 287 seats, Congress 80, and others 176. In the 2024 elections, BJP secured 240 seats, and Congress obtained 99. The August survey predicted BJP to secure 260 and Congress 97 seats.

When looking at party-wise vote shares, the survey indicates if elections took place today, BJP might receive 41%, Congress 20%, and others 39% of votes.
