Satellite images have revealed that China is constructing a new diesel-electric submarine. This has been reported by Tom Shugart, a former US naval and defense analyst. China is building its submarines at the Wuchang Shipyard in Wuhan district, bolstering its naval power to face off against the United States.
Last year, the US Department of Defense released a report showing that China possesses 48 diesel-electric submarines. Among these, 21 are the 3,600-ton Type 039A and B submarines, known as Yuan class, capable of firing anti-ship missiles. The Pentagon predicts that by 2025, China will build 25 more submarines and add them to its navy.

When it comes to submarines, China is slightly behind the US. China has 61 submarines, while the US has 64. China owns 49 destroyers compared to the US's 75. China also has 42 frigates, with the US having none. In terms of corvettes, China has 72, whereas the US has 23.
China Builds New Type of Submarine
Tom Shugart noted that the image was captured by Planet Labs on April 26 this year. However, analyzing it took considerable time. It is likely that China is developing a new class of submarine. This submarine appears to be 83 to 85 meters (272 to 279 feet) long, whereas Yuan class submarines are 77 meters long.

Therefore, it is likely this is a new class of submarine. Its stern resembles an X, suggesting improved maneuverability and control, producing less noise underwater. China's Yuan class submarines do not have such a stern, neither the old series nor the new ones.
