Political upheaval remains at its peak in the run-up to the Lok Sabha 2024 elections in the widely-discussed Chhindwara constituency. In a striking reversal, Chhindwara's Mayor Vikram Ahake made headlines by rejoining the Congress party. He released a video praising Kamal Nath and son Nakul Nath, imploring the electorate to vote for the Congress candidate.

Sharing Vikram Ahake’s video, the Madhya Pradesh Congress articulated, 'Chhindwara witnesses a severe setback for the BJP as Mayor Vikram Ahake, once a Congress member, returns to the fold with Nakul Nath and Kamal Nath. Mayor Ahake appeals to Chhindwara's citizens for their vote in a heartfelt video. Victory to Congress, victory to Chhindwara.'

Recall that on April 1st, Chhindwara's Mayor Vikram Ahake had endorsed the BJP in the capital Bhopal. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and BJP state president V.D. Sharma welcomed Vikram, a known associate of Kamal Nath, to the BJP ranks.

Joining Mayor Vikram Ahake were a number of local dignitaries and political figures, uniting under the BJP banner.

It's worth noting that the BJP holds 28 of the 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, with Chhindwara being the sole bastion under the grip of Congress senior leader Kamal Nath. His son, Nakul Nath, is the Congress candidate for the parliamentary seat, while the BJP has fielded Vivek (Bunty) Sahu.

The BJP has exerted strenuous efforts to wrestle the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat from Kamal Nath, attempting to undermine his stronghold by recruiting dissatisfied and influential local leaders to their cause. As the election fever intensifies, it remains to be seen whose scales will tip in favor of Chhindwara when the results are declared on June 4th.
