The Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh has released figures for the state's new draft voter list, revealing that nearly 28.9 million names have been removed following a major verification campaign. This has reduced UP's voter base from 150 million to approximately 120 million.
Verification Process and Major Cuts, as explained by the Chief Electoral Officer, indicated that only 81 percent (around 120 million) of the 150 million voters from the old list returned signed verification forms.
Inconsistencies were found in the remaining 18 percent of data. Deleted names include 4.623 million deceased, 21.7 million migrated, and 2.547 million duplicate voters with entries at multiple locations.
Opportunity for Corrections Until February 6: How to Check
The Election Commission appeals to the public to make sure their names are on the list. Anyone eligible who finds their name missing can fill out Form-6 to have it added. Additionally, Form-8 can be used for correcting address or name discrepancies.

All citizens who have turned 18 are advised to fill Form-6 if their name isn't on the list, whereas Form-8 can be used for rectifying any errors. The commission has also sought continuous cooperation from political parties in this process.
