The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) teams are making headlines with raids on several locations in Raipur and Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, including the residence of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The dramatic turn of events is linked to the Mahadev Betting App case, which had allegedly duped users out of millions of rupees. CBI officials arrived early in the morning to conduct these critical investigations.
CBI Joins the Investigation...
A statement from Bhupesh Baghel's office was shared on social media, exclaiming, "Now the CBI has arrived. Former CM Bhupesh Baghel is scheduled to travel to Delhi today for the 'Drafting Committee' meeting organized for the upcoming AICC session in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on April 8 and 9. However, the CBI has already reached his residences in Raipur and Bhilai."

What is the Mahadev Betting App?
The Mahadev Betting App is an online gambling platform where users could participate in live games such as poker and other card games under the guise of chance games. It became notorious for facilitating illegal betting on sports such as cricket, badminton, tennis, and football, as well as in political elections. Chhattisgarh saw a significant rise in accounts created for this app, leading to widespread fraud. The enterprise was structured with multiple branches, each sold under a franchise by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. Users often saw initial gains only to incur subsequent losses, with the proprietors withholding 80% of the profits. This betting racket operated like a well-oiled machine, utilizing an algorithm to ensure only 30% of users would see winning returns.
Recent ED Raid
Previously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a significant raid, claiming to find a substantial amount of cash at Bhupesh Baghel’s residence. Two currency counting machines were brought in to tally the cash. Additionally, the ED seized several electronic gadgets and documents related to Bhupesh Baghel's son, Chaitanya Baghel. These investigations connected to a suspected liquor scandal further intensify the scrutiny around political figures in the region.
