The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to close two cases related to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death. According to sources, the investigating agency submitted its closure report to a Mumbai court. The report indicates that no evidence of conspiracy or criminal intent was found in Sushant's death.

What Was the Case?

On June 14, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment. His passing generated a national uproar, leading to the case being transferred from Mumbai Police to the CBI. The postmortem at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai identified asphyxia (suffocation) as the cause of death.

Sushant's father, K.K. Singh, filed an FIR in Patna accusing actress Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetment to suicide, financial fraud, and mental harassment. In response, Rhea Chakraborty filed a counter-complaint in Mumbai against Sushant's sisters for allegedly obtaining false medical prescriptions.

CBI's Closure Report Filed

The CBI took over the case in August 2020 and continued its probe for several years. However, the agency has now submitted closure reports for both cases, indicating that no criminal conspiracy or wrongdoings were discovered in their investigation into Sushant's death.

Family's Reaction

Last month, ahead of the Bombay High Court hearing on the public interest litigation (PIL) related to his son's death, K.K. Singh expressed hope for justice from the newly formed government in Maharashtra. He has consistently voiced his belief that Sushant's death could not have been a suicide and showed discontent over the CBI's apparent delay in their investigation.

Hope from the Courts

K.K. Singh expressed confidence that the court will deliver a fair verdict soon and uncover the truth. He also acknowledged that Shiv Sena (UBT) member Aditya Thackeray's name was brought into the case by the media, but stressed that the truth is for the court to decide. He maintains that it is unlikely Sushant Singh took his own life.
