The ongoing internal clash within India's premier investigation agency, the CBI, has escalated to a courtroom battle. On Tuesday, CBI officer AK Bassi challenged his transfer by filing a petition in the Supreme Court, but an urgent hearing was declined by the court.
AK Bassi claims to possess crucial evidence against Rakesh Asthana, a special director placed on leave. Bassi is demanding the formation of an SIT (Special Investigation Team) for this case. He insists that there is concrete proof against Rakesh Asthana.
It’s noteworthy that AK Bassi was integral to the corruption investigation against Rakesh Asthana. The upheaval within the CBI led to a complete overhaul of the investigation team, resulting in Bassi’s transfer.
Additionally, on Tuesday, the Supreme Court held a hearing on a petition filed by Satish Sana. Sana requested heightened security, which the court agreed to.
Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi remarked that security could be provided if any citizen feels threatened. Justice Patnaik, who oversees the CVC inquiry, will monitor this issue. Satish Sana will receive protection from the Hyderabad police.
Who is Satish Sana?
Satish Babu Sana is the individual accused of offering a ₹3 crore bribe to Rakesh Asthana to settle his case related to Moin Qureshi. His name surfaced in allegations involving bribery with former CBI Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana.
