Strained Relations Between India and Canada

Recently, India and Canada’s relations have hit a historic low. Canada's claim that Indian High Commissioner in Ottawa is a 'suspect' in the murder case of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar led to diplomatic tensions. In response, India refuted the allegations and recalled six of its diplomats. Canada’s Foreign Minister warned that other Indian diplomats in the country are 'on notice'.

Canada's Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated on Friday that her government will not tolerate diplomats violating the Vienna Convention or endangering Canadian lives. India expelled six Canadian diplomats on Monday, asserting its position against Ottawa’s accusations implicating Indian officials in the murder investigation of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

According to reports, Sandeep Singh Sidhu, a member of the banned International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) and associated with the CBSA, is included in this list due to his alleged involvement in promoting terrorist activities in Punjab.
