A tragic case of honor killing surfaced in Pakistan's Balochistan province. A brother, with the help of armed men, murdered his sister under the accusation of 'wrong relationships'. A video circulating on social media shows a couple, Bano Bibi and Ehsanullah, being taken to a deserted area in pickup trucks by dozens dressed in Pathani suits and turbans.
Following this, members of Balochistan's Jirga (traditional public court) disembark from the trucks and brandish automatic weapons. The video shows the couple walking ahead, and then the unmistakable sound of gunfire. Within moments, the couple is shot dead at close range.
The Brother Committed the Gruesome Act
Local media reports state that it was the brother who shot his sister. In her final moments, Bano Bibi expressed in the Brahui language, 'Walk seven steps with me, then you can shoot me.' When she said, 'You have permission to kill me, nothing else,' the brother followed her for a few steps and then fired.
Balochistan Police Take Action
Following the viral video of the couple's murder, Balochistan police have arrested 13 individuals. Although the event occurred in June, the video went viral on July 20.
