Just ahead of the parliamentary elections, international boxer Vijender Singh took a political leap from Congress to BJP on Wednesday. He was inducted into BJP amidst the presence of its National Secretary Vinod Tawde at the Delhi headquarters. Post joining, Vijender confessed in an exclusive interaction with Aaj Tak that during his approximately 4-year stint with Congress, he saw a lot but now believes that BJP is the finest. 'I may have shifted my allegiance, but I remain Vijender Singh. If I notice something amiss, rest assured I will promptly address it with the government,' he stated.
During the special conversation, Vijender Singh answered questions about his political switch and emphasized his motivation stemmed from resolving difficulties young sportspeople face, and he aims to guide them as part of BJP.
What does Vijender Singh say about wrestlers today?
Responding to issues concerning wrestling protests, he argued that if the wrestlers' concerns were aptly represented, the situation wouldn't have escalated. 'I was right then and I will continue to stand for what is right. Amidst changing parties, my essence remains intact,' he asserted.
Vijender Singh comments on the farmers' protest
Addressing the farmers' agitation, he acknowledged the government's decision to retract the laws, viewing it as a correct move by the Prime Minister.
'I wish to serve the nation'
Vijender Singh clarified his sudden BJP alignment, expressing a desire to work in the nation's best interest and not for electoral gains. Ensuring the welfare of athletes and the youth is paramount to him.
Will Vijender Singh's credibility be questioned?
Facing queries about his sudden party switch, he countered that the public knows all. 'If I err, they will be the judge. Maintaining credibility requires good deeds among the populace. After all, we live in a democracy.'
'Joined BJP influenced by PM Modi'
He praised PM Narendra Modi's working style and mentioned how it inspired him. 'Modi's passion ignites my drive,' he said.
'A significant contrast in Rahul Gandhi's upbringing'

Interestingly, the Congress had fielded Vijender Singh from the Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh, but with his defection, they have now announced Mukesh Dhanger as their new candidate. Meanwhile, BJP continues to rely on the two-time MP and actress Hema Malini for this seat.
