The Bombay High Court has directed submission of a status report in the case of a suspect's custodial death associated with the Salman Khan house shooting affair. The court has also ordered the preservation of CCTV footage from where the suspect was detained. It's reported that the suspect allegedly committed suicide while in custody. The deceased's mother has filed a petition in the High Court seeking justice for her son.
During the hearing, Additional Public Prosecutor Prajakta Shinde informed the court that a magisterial inquiry had begun and the CID is investigating the suspect's custodial death. She mentioned that beyond an accidental death report, no investigation or FIR had been registered.
Anuj Thapan's death occurred on May 1st
It's noted that Anuj Thapan, arrested in connection with the shooting at Salman Khan's residence, committed suicide in custody on May 1st. The Mumbai Crime Branch had arrested him. Now, Thapan's mother Rita Devi has accused the police of murdering her son in custody while filing a petition in the High Court. She has requested a CBI investigation into her son's death.
On the other hand, Lawyer Sriram Parakkat, representing Thapan's mother, stated that it has been over a fortnight since the incident with no FIR filed. Parakkat stressed the need for immediate registration of an FIR and transfer of the investigation to the CBI, to which the court has directed the submission of a status report.
The shooting at Salman Khan's house took place on April 14th
The shooting event occurred at Salman Khan's Bandra residence on April 14th. Mumbai's Crime Branch was entrusted with the case. Six suspects have been arrested to date, one of whom was Anuj Thapan, who died in police custody. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother are the prime suspects in the shooting at Salman Khan's house.
