Bringing encouraging news for the Bharatiya Janata Party amidst the Lok Sabha elections, the Surat Constituency has witnessed a clear path to a BJP victory after the cancellation of the Congress candidate's nomination. Consequently, remaining contenders have withdrawn their candidatures, assuring BJP's unopposed triumph and marking the party's account opener for the elections. BJP's candidate from this locus is Mukesh Dalal.

In a pivotal turn of events, the Congress candidate from Surat, Nilesh Kumbhani, failed to present even one supporter required during nomination filing, leading to the cancellation of his nomination by electoral officials. The BJP had raised concerns regarding the authenticity of signatures of Kumbhani's proposers on his nomination form.

Exposed: Congress Engulfed in Controversy

The Congress, on the other hand, accused the government of instigating fear that led to the invalidation of their nomination. Congress leader and advocate Babu Mangukiya asserted an alleged abduction of all three proposers, criticizing the election official's focus on the kidnapping rather than the legitimacy of the signatures on the nomination form. Mangukiya argued that annulling the form without verifying the signatures was improper and that the proposers' signatures should be evaluated for authenticity.

Proposers Submit Affidavit Denying Signatures

However, the plot thickens as the three individuals touted as Nilesh Kumbhani's proposers, which include his brother-in-law, nephew, and a partner, submitted affidavits to the election officer, claiming the signatures on Kumbhani's nomination were not theirs, leading to their sudden disappearance from the scene.

The election official also recorded a video of the statement made by Jagdish Savaliya (brother-in-law), Dhruvin Dhameliya (nephew), and Ramesh Polara (partner), Kumbhani's proposers, which subsequently led the officials to provide Kumbhani a day to respond. Unfortunately, upon his appearance to respond, accompanied by his advocate, not a single proposer was present. It is noteworthy that Morarji Desai, a former Prime Minister of India, was a five-time parliamentarian from the Surat constituency of Gujarat, but since 1989, the seat has remained a stronghold of the BJP.
