BJP has once again intensified its efforts to attract the backward class in UP. The party will soon have a major meeting with OBC leaders. In this meeting, discussions with OBC leaders will take place. Narendra Kashyap, Minister in the UP government and president of the state OBC front, said that the OBC community will be brought together and the reasons for their dissatisfaction will be understood. Kashyap also mentioned that the organization is greater than the government.
BJP leader Narendra Kashyap reiterated that the organization is greater than the government. If there is an organization, there is a government. BJP will hold an OBC working committee meeting on July 29, which will include Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, and senior BJP leaders such as Brajesh Pathak. The agenda of the meeting is to understand how to maintain the OBC vote bank and bring back those who might have shifted due to dissatisfaction. Kashyap said that due to the overconfidence of BJP workers and leaders, the party suffered losses in UP.
SP says - OBC's future is in PDA
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Udayveer Singh took a jab at BJP regarding the meeting with the OBC community. Udayveer said, no matter how hard they try, the OBC and backward classes have understood that their future lies in the PDA, and BJP only practices divisive politics. These people are fighting among themselves. Officials are so dominant that the organization isn't functioning properly. Udayveer Singh said that in the legislative meeting, the national president will decide who will be the leader of the opposition.
BJP faced a significant setback in the Lok Sabha elections
In Uttar Pradesh's politics, every party tries to attract the backward class. This time, it was said that the angry backward class distanced itself from the BJP in the general elections. Many discussions started regarding this. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 33 seats in UP. In contrast, in the 2019 elections, they had won 62 seats. Earlier, in 2014, BJP had won 71 seats in UP. The weak performance this time is also considered to be significantly influenced by the dissatisfaction of the backward class. The OBC population in UP accounts for about 50% of the total population, making it a crucial vote bank from an electoral perspective.
In this Lok Sabha election in UP, the Samajwadi Party won the highest number of 37 seats. Congress secured 6 seats. BJP's ally RLD won 2 seats, Apna Dal (S) won one seat, while BSP could not open its account.
Parties vying to attract OBC
Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party's efforts to attract the OBC communities are also becoming challenging for BJP. Several OBC leaders resigned from the party and joined SP and other parties. The OBC communities believe that BJP hasn't provided them with adequate representation and that the party’s policies on reservation need improvement.
What is Akhilesh Yadav's PDA?
The PDA (Backward, Dalit, and Minority) formula suggested by SP president Akhilesh Yadav is seen as a significant strategy against BJP in the general elections. Under this formula, the Samajwadi Party aims to unite the backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. The objective of this strategy is to challenge the NDA with the support of these communities.
