Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and Agnimitra Paul, among 6 BJP lawmakers, were suspended for 'unparliamentary conduct' during the ongoing session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday. Under the leadership of Suvendu Adhikari, BJP legislators were protesting against the Trinamool government concerning the Sandeshkhali matter. As per news agency reports, 'All BJP lawmakers have been suspended under the state assembly rule 348'.

The suspension proposal against the BJP legislators was presented by West Bengal's Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay. The Speaker placed the proposal before the house, which was passed. Following this, Suvendu Adhikari, Agnimitra Paul, Mihir Goswami, Bankim Ghosh, Tapsi Mandal, and Shankar Ghosh were suspended for the current legislative session's remainder. During question hour, BJP MPs began sloganeering against the TMC government over unrest in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district. The Sandeshkhali issue has escalated into a significant political controversy in the state.

BJP legislators staged a sit-in and chants on the assembly floor to oppose the TMC government led by Mamata Banerjee. After suspending their lawmakers, BJP accused the ruling TMC of targeting them for bringing up the Sandeshkhali issue during the assembly session. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari emphasized that BJP will continue to advocate for the respect and rights of women.

On the suspension of Suvendu Adhikari and other BJP lawmakers, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay stated, 'The Speaker told the leader of the opposition and BJP legislators that you cannot wear T-shirts with political slogans. They did not listen. They started chanting political slogans and tearing papers inside the house. BJP legislators sat in the well. Such activities are not allowed inside the Legislative Assembly'.

Women take to streets against TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali

In recent events in Sandeshkhali, a large number of women have demonstrated on the streets against local TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan. Accusations have been made by the women against Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates for forcefully seizing their lands and committing sexual harassment. Section 144 has been implemented in 16 panchayats of Sandeshkhali's two blocks. An indefinite suspension has also been put on internet usage in the area until the situation returns to normal.
