Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha seat, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh, passed away at the age of 71, at 6:30 PM in Delhi AIIMS today. Afflicted by cancer, Singh had been admitted to the hospital since the time his nomination was confirmed by the BJP. Voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections took place in this seat on 19th April, a Friday, with Moradabad witnessing a turnout of nearly 60%, down from 65.39% in 2019. The Samajwadi Party's Ruchi Veera is contesting against Sarvesh Singh.
The businessman and considered one of Uttar Pradesh's powerful political figures, Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar, became a Member of Parliament from Moradabad in 2014. Before becoming an MP, he was elected as an MLA from Thakurdwara constituency four times. He was very much in the limelight during the loudspeaker controversy in Kānth assembly area in 2014.
The Political Journey of Kunwar Sarvesh Singh
Born on December 22, 1951, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh contested his first assembly election in 1991 on a BJP ticket from Thakurdwara and won. He continued his winning streak in the subsequent elections of 1993, 1996, and 2002. However, he faced defeat at the hands of a BSP candidate in 2007. Sarvesh Singh's son, Sushant Singh, is currently a BJP MLA from Bijnor's Badhapur constituency.

BJP Nominated Sarvesh Singh for Moradabad Seat for the Fourth Time
The BJP had nominated Sarvesh Singh for Moradabad Lok Sabha seat for the fourth time. He contested against former cricketer Azharuddin in 2009 but was defeated. However, he emerged victorious against Samajwadi Party's Dr. S.T. Hasan in the 2014 elections. He also contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but faced defeat.

There are six legislative assembly constituencies under Moradabad Lok Sabha. The literacy rate of the district is 56.77%, with 64.83% of males and 47.86% females being literate. The Muslim voters are considered the key to power in the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat, which has a population with 52.14% Hindus and 47.12% Muslims. The BJP won the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 2014, as the party made a clean sweep with 71 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar successfully defeated his rival, Samajwadi Party's Dr. S.T. Hasan, by a significant margin of about 87,000 votes.
