The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh has claimed a resounding victory in 10 out of 60 assembly seats, even before the commencement of the polls. The state’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have both been returned unopposed, for which they graciously thanked the people of their respective constituencies. Khandu attributed this victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary politics.
Khandu has said that Arunachal Pradesh has scripted an unprecedented chapter in electoral history with these uncontested elections. He expresses immense gratitude to the constituencies that have shown overwhelming support, especially in their faith in Modi's leadership. He adds that his party accepts the people's mandate with great humility.
He also states that the strong support reflects the people's trust and the profound responsibility and commitment to serving them with integrity.
Congress Candidate Withdraws Nomination
In a significant development, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were among the 10 BJP candidates who were elected unopposed as the deadline for withdrawal of nominations came to an end. Khandu was uncontested in the Mukto assembly constituency from the Tawang district, while Mein secured the Chowkham seat following the withdrawal of his lone Congress rival, Bayamso Kri.
Officials reported that single nominations were filed in six constituencies, and in four others, the opposition candidates retracted their nominations. With this, Khandu is set to embark on his fourth term as the legislator from the Mukto constituency, having been elected unopposed thrice before.
The Deputy Chief Minister marks his second term from the Chowkham constituency. The seasoned politician Mein represented the Lekang constituency since 1995.
