The silence of political parties on the draft voter list released before the Bihar Assembly elections is astonishing. The Election Commission revealed on Saturday that since the draft was issued on August 1, no political party has submitted any objections to add or remove a name within the nine-day window.
The Election Commission notes the draft will be open for claims and objections until September 1. During this period, parties and individuals can appeal for eligible citizen names to be included or unqualified names to be removed.
However, between August 1 and 9, no booth-level agent from any party has filed any objection. Conversely, 7,252 individuals have contacted the commission to add or remove names from the voter list.
The Election Commission urges that no eligible voter will be overlooked, and no unqualified name will be added. The Commission appeals to everyone to correct any errors in the draft by submitting their claims and objections.
This draft voter list is part of the 'Special Intensive Revision (SIR)' process. The opposition has been vocally objecting, claiming that many eligible citizens could be disenfranchised due to documentation issues, leading to uproar in both houses of Parliament.
The Election Commission reiterated that no eligible citizen's name would be removed from the list. The final voter list is scheduled for release on September 30.
