After the conclusion of voting in the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, exit polls (Poll of Polls) predict a significant return to power for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to a compilation of exit polls from various agencies, the Poll of Polls suggests that the NDA could win more than 147 seats, surpassing the magical majority number of 122 in the 243-seat Bihar Assembly. Predictions indicate a larger mandate for the NDA compared to the 125 seats it secured in 2020.

The surprising factor is that Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj Party (JSP) doesn't seem to have made much of an impact. Almost all agencies, including Chanakya Strategies, Matrize, People’s Insight, and P-Marq, estimate that Jan Suraj will secure between 0 and 2 seats.

Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj Party (JSP), which recently stepped into the political arena, hasn't impressed pollsters. Major agencies, including Chanakya Strategies, Matrize, and People's Pulse, project that his party will not even reach double digits.

Key Election Issues and Political Legacies

The election atmosphere was intensely charged this time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah used several rallies to forward the theme of ‘Development versus Jungle Raj’. On the other hand, Tejashwi Yadav sought public support on promises of tackling unemployment, inflation, and government jobs. Notably, Tejashwi made grand promises like guaranteeing a government job to every family and financial assistance of ₹30,000 to women.

Political observers point out that this election is historic for Nitish Kumar as it might be his last assembly election. Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad Yadav has already handed over the party’s reins to his son Tejashwi Yadav.
