The challenges for the Grand Alliance continue to mount in the Bihar Assembly elections. Now, the Election Commission has disqualified the nomination of RJD candidate Shweta Suman for the Mohania assembly seat in Kaimur district. The commission deemed Shweta Suman ineligible, citing her as a resident of Uttar Pradesh and invalidating her nomination accordingly.
Shweta Suman had filed her nomination for the Mohania seat, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, arguing that Shweta is not a native of Bihar. BJP claimed she hails from Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh, and for contesting a reserved seat in Bihar, local residency is necessary.
Responding to the BJP's complaint, the Election Commission scrutinized Shweta Suman's documents. The investigation revealed that she had also filed a nomination in 2020 from Mohania, using an address from Chandauli, Sakaldiha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Although she presented a Bihar address this time, the commission deemed it inadequate and revoked her nomination.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the cancellation of her nomination, Shweta Suman remarked, 'BJP and their candidates fear me, my party, and the potential return of the RJD government. That’s why they are acting unjustly. Imagine, one is not being allowed to contest elections. Isn't this a violation of democratic rights?'
'Been Living Here for 20 Years'
She emphasized that if her government comes to power, they will bring about the destruction of Bihar. She was accused of not being a true resident of the area and using caste certification from Uttar Pradesh, whereas she has been residing here for 20 years.
VIP Candidate Disqualified
Before Shweta Suman, Shashi Bhushan Singh of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) also faced a rejection of his nomination from the Sughauli seat in Motihari. Due to technical reasons, his nomination was canceled, delivering a major blow to the Grand Alliance while strengthening the NDA's stance on this seat.
Elections to be Held in Two Phases
Voting for Bihar Assembly's 243 seats will occur in two phases on November 6 and 11. Results will be declared on November 14.
