The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. This announcement was made on Monday. The voting will take place in two phases on the 6th and 11th of November, with the results to be declared on November 14. The term of the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly is set to end on November 22.
Amidst these electoral announcements, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has introduced a new slogan for the Bihar elections. The slogan is: 'From 25 to 30, Our Two Brothers Narendra and Nitish.' This slogan reflects the ruling party's strategy for the upcoming election.
Elections to be held in two phases
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanendra Kumar explained that voting in the state will occur in two phases. The first phase will be on November 6, covering 121 constituencies that include flood-prone and rural areas of central Bihar. The second phase of voting, involving 122 constituencies, will be held on November 11. The commission has urged voters to conduct the elections transparently while maintaining law and order.
Voting and logistics post-Chhath Puja
Considering the requests from several political parties, the Election Commission has scheduled the elections after the conclusion of Chhath Puja, Bihar’s most popular festival later this month. The set of 71 constituencies in 16 districts involved in the first phase of the 2020 elections remains unchanged for the upcoming first phase on November 6. This appears to be a strategic move to group districts considered strongholds of the RJD deliberately.
