Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the central government has taken a significant step to address future security concerns. It has decided to approve 16 new battalions and two regional headquarters for the Border Security Force (BSF) along the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders. Approximately 17,000 personnel will be part of these new battalions, bolstering security and vigilance at the borders.
The establishment of new battalions is expected to bolster BSF's core priority of border security. Sources indicate that the Ministry of Home Affairs has also approved advanced headquarters for the Western and Eastern Commands. A new sector will be established in Jammu to reinforce the Pakistan-India international boundary in Jammu and Punjab, while a headquarters in Mizoram will monitor the Bangladesh border.

The Process Might Take Five to Six Years!
Currently, BSF has 193 battalions, and this new project will add approximately 17,000 new personnel. Each battalion consists of over 1,000 personnel, leading to the formation of these new units. Once implemented, BSF will commence recruiting men and women for these battalions, followed by training.
It is reported that the entire process could take up to five to six years. At present, BSF has a force of 270,000 personnel, but it has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs for an additional 20-21 battalions, citing security concerns.
