Political waves are rippling through Assam. Chief Minister Himanta's social media post has hinted at fresh political moves. Recently, former Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Bora resigned from Congress. Remarkably, within hours, he retracted his resignation, which he had originally sent to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Reports indicate that Bora cited 'neglect' and lack of proper respect as reasons for his decision. However, after a day filled with meetings and persuasion from party leaders, he decided to retract his resignation. This move has now taken a new turn with a statement made by Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, heating up the political arena.
Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on social media, "Mr. Bhupen Bora was the last major Hindu leader to emerge as a grassroots worker of Assam Congress. I am looking forward to meeting him tonight on his invitation. I sincerely wish he joins the BJP family to empower our commitment to serving the nation and Assam."
Efforts to Persuade Bora
The moment Bora's resignation news surfaced, several senior Congress leaders rushed to his residence in Guwahati. Current Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, along with other party leaders and coalition representatives, met with him. Following these discussions, Bora decided to take a U-turn and remain with the party. But the Chief Minister's social media post has now raised fresh questions.

What Does This Mean Politically?
Bhupen Bora served as the president of the Assam unit of Congress from 2021 to 2025 and is credited with strengthening the organization from the grassroots. His resignation and subsequent retraction indicate underlying dissatisfaction within the party. However, for now, the break-up seems averted, but Himanta's statement poses new questions. This political saga is considered crucial for both Congress and BJP, especially with the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
