A new era in cab service is about to begin today. Central Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the country's first cooperative taxi service 'Bharat Taxi'. This new cab service directly challenges the monopoly of private cab providers. The government claims that Bharat Taxi ensures drivers receive their rightful earnings directly and users escape the whims of surge pricing by private cabs.
Last March, Amit Shah mentioned in the Lok Sabha, “We are shortly bringing a cooperative taxi platform akin to Ola and Uber. The profits from this cooperative platform won't end up with a single millionaire but will benefit the taxi drivers.” Today, at Vigyan Bhavan in the nation's capital, Home Minister Amit Shah will officially launch Bharat Taxi.
It's noteworthy that the pilot project of Bharat Taxi has already commenced. Several cab drivers across Delhi-NCR are utilizing this app-based service. The soft launch of Bharat Taxi will honor top-performing drivers during the event with certificates and benefits, including a personal accident insurance of 5 lakh and a family health insurance of 5 lakh.
The government believes that Bharat Taxi, inspired by the vision 'Prosperity from Cooperation', will be a landmark in promoting citizen-centric mobility. Let's explore how Bharat Taxi differentiates itself from other private cab aggregators in the country.
Firstly, drivers on Bharat Taxi will not just be called drivers but 'Saarthi'. The government says the Saarthi will be the owner, as the entire fare paid by the user will directly reach the driver's account. Unlike companies like Ola and Uber, which take a significant commission post-ride, Bharat Taxi offers major relief to drivers. Often disputes arise between cab companies and drivers over fares and commissions.
Bharat Taxi promises relief from surge pricing. Unlike private cab aggregators that charge exorbitant fares during peak hours or adverse weather, Bharat Taxi resolves this issue, benefitting the common customer. As of July 1, the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guideline (MVAG) 2025 allows cab aggregators to charge up to twice the base fare during peak traffic hours, escalating the practice of hefty charges.
Users will have the benefit of cab, bike, and auto services on Bharat Taxi. This platform caters to every need, from short distances to long journeys, allowing customers to choose according to their budget and needs, be it a car, auto, or even a bike ride.

Passenger safety is paramount for Bharat Taxi. Mandatory police verification for all drivers, an emergency SOS button in the app, live location sharing, and trip history features are provided, ensuring a secure journey for you and your family. Additionally, the app offers a helpline for any issues faced by users.
Information reveals that over 300,000 drivers have joined Bharat Taxi so far, with more than 10,000 rides completed daily on the platform. This number was 1.4 lakh drivers last month, highlighting the growing popularity and increasing driver association with this service.
This cooperative taxi service is operated with the collaboration of eight major co-operative institutions in the country, including Amul, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, NCEL, NCDC, and NABARD. The company's board also includes two elected representatives from the drivers, ensuring their needs and demands reach the government directly.
