The shockwaves from the suicide of tech expert Subhash Atul in Bengaluru have not yet settled when another similar incident has emerged in the city. The 33-year-old head constable of Hulimavu police station leaped to his death before a train at Baiyappanahalli late on Friday night. The deceased, named Thippanna Alugur, accused his wife Parvathi and her father Yamunappa of driving him to this extreme step in a note penned in Kannada. Thippanna was a resident of Handiganur village near Sindagi town in Vijayapura district, North Karnataka.
Reports suggest that Thippanna and Parvathi, from his hometown, married three years ago and lived in a rented apartment in Bengaluru. The couple was childless. Thippanna worked his first shift on Friday (from 8 AM to 2 PM) before returning home. The evening allegedly saw a heated altercation with Parvathi. According to his suicide note, later that night, he received a call from his father-in-law Yamunappa, who misbehaved with him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Thippanna jumped before a train on the tracks between Heelalige railway station and Carmelaram rail gate. The horrific discovery was reported on Friday night, around 8 PM, when passersby noticed his mangled body and informed the railway police. The railway police stated Thippanna was wearing his police uniform when he took the drastic action.
Allegations in Suicide Note
In his suicide note, Thippanna stated, "I am ending my life due to the torture and harassment inflicted by my wife Parvathi and her father Yamunappa. On December 12, they called me at 7:26 PM, talked for 14 minutes, and threatened me. They told me to die; otherwise, they would kill me themselves so their daughter (Parvathi) could live peacefully."
The note ended by addressing his batchmate, identified as Malappa, who works with the Karnataka State Reserve Police and was asked to retrieve his bike parked near a lake close to the Huskur railway track.
Mother of Deceased Files FIR
On Saturday, Thippanna's mother, Basamma Alugur, filed a complaint with the Baiyappanahalli railway police, accusing her daughter-in-law Parvathi and Yamunappa of driving her son to suicide through exploitation and harassment. A senior police officer stated, “We will serve notices to the accused, directing them to appear for statements, which will be our initial step.”
