Bengaluru police unveiled a shocking murder case with the arrest of a couple accused of killing gig worker Darshan and staging it as a road accident. The incident took place on October 25 in the Sri Rama Temple area, where the accused's car deliberately rammed into the gig worker's two-wheeler after following it. Tragically, Darshan died on the spot, while his friend Varun was gravely injured.
The case was initially registered as an accident at the JP Nagar Traffic Police Station. However, a review of the CCTV footage made the police suspicious, revealing that the car pursued the bike intentionally before the collision. It was clear this was no accident but a premeditated crime.
South DCP Lokesh Jaglasur explained, 'Moments before the incident, Darshan's bike had brushed against the car, breaking its side mirror. Enraged, the driver reversed the car and began chasing the bike, subsequently hitting it with force.' The arrested individuals are identified as Manoj Sharma, a physical education teacher, and his wife, Aarti.
Attempt to Erase Evidence
The couple is accused of returning to the scene, disguised with masks, in an effort to destroy evidence by collecting the car’s broken parts.
According to the police, after the collision, the couple fled the scene but later returned wearing masks to gather broken car parts, hoping to obliterate evidence. The entire act was captured by CCTV, which betrayed their plot.
Following these revelations, the police have now registered the case under the Indian Penal Code section for murder and added charges of evidence destruction. The couple was arrested on October 28 and presented in court. South Police Station officials are continuing the investigation.
