Bengal: Grandfather Accused of Raping Granddaughter, Arrested

A stunning development has emerged in the case of a 4-year-old girl's sexual abuse in Tarakeshwar, Hooghly district, West Bengal. The police revealed the harrowing truth that the complainant, the girl's grandfather, is the main suspect, leading to his arrest.

Confession Unveiled After Statement Inconsistencies

Hooghly Rural's Superintendent of Police, Kamanashis Sen, shared this update on Sunday. He stated that a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed for a comprehensive probe into this incident. SP Sen mentioned that inconsistencies in the complainant grandpa’s statements arose during the investigation. Under rigorous interrogation, he confessed, resulting in his immediate arrest.

SP Sen assured that like in previous incidents, this case will be swiftly concluded with appropriate actions.

Suspect Sent to Judicial Custody

Due to the closure of the POCSO Court on Sunday, the suspect was presented in court today and remanded to one-day judicial custody. The police will present him before the POCSO Court tomorrow, seeking seven days of police custody.

The crime scene has been secured, and today a forensic team gathered multiple samples. The girl's medical examinations are being conducted under strict vigilance. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has also been notified for a parallel investigation.

Request for Enhanced Railway Police Security

SP Kamanashis Sen also mentioned that the area of incident falls under railway jurisdiction. Since freight trains pass through and a Road Over Bridge (ROB) is under construction, police have requested the railway police for increased security in the area. Local police will also enhance their vigilance.
