The religious leaders of Bareilly in UP are upset with Indian cricket team's fast bowler Mohammed Shami. They claim that Shami did not observe Ramadan fasting and was caught on camera consuming juice/energy drinks during a match against Australia. According to them, intentionally not fasting is a sin, and under Sharia law, he is considered a violator.
A video of Mohammed Shami drinking juice during a match in Dubai sparked controversy among Bareilly clerics. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, President of All India Muslim Jamaat, released a statement emphasizing that Islam mandates fasting during Ramadan, and intentionally missing it is a grievous sin. Despite fasting being an obligatory duty for Shami, he did not observe it, which is a considerable offense under Sharia law.
According to Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, Shami should not have acted this way. He advises and counsels Shami to adhere to Islamic laws while continuing his cricket and other activities, fulfilling the divine responsibilities bestowed upon him by Allah. Shami is urged to seek forgiveness for his acts.
It should be noted that during the India versus Australia semifinal match in Dubai, a photo of Mohammed Shami went viral on social media, showing him drinking an energy drink amidst the heat. Following this, religious leaders condemned his actions, citing that not fasting during Ramadan is a sin. Amidst this, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi from Bareilly issued a statement admonishing Shami.
