On the third Monday of Sawan, a significant incident unfolded at the renowned Avsaneswar Mahadev Temple in the Haidergarh area of Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Panic spread when an unexpected electrical discharge during the Jalabhishek ceremony triggered a stampede, resulting in the unfortunate demise of two devotees and injuries to 40 others.

The deceased include 22-year-old Prashant from Mubarakpur village in Loni Katra and another devotee. Both were rushed to Trivediganj CHC for treatment.

What Caused the Incident?

Local eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred around 3 AM when a large number of devotees gathered in the temple complex for Jalabhishek.

Reportedly, a monkey jumping onto an electric wire caused the wire to break and fall onto the temple's tin shed. As soon as the wire fell, the current spread to the shed, causing panic and a resulting stampede. The DM and all officials are present at the scene.

Stampede at Haridwar's Mansa Devi Temple

It is noteworthy that just a day earlier, on Sunday morning, a stampede occurred at the famous Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, resulting in six fatalities. Following the Kaandwa Yatra, a large crowd of devotees arrived for darshan, leading to chaos due to overcrowding. Additionally, 15 people were injured in the incident, and authorities confirmed that all injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital.
