The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the investigation into the 'brutal murder' of Awami League MP Mohammad Anwarul Azim Anwar, who has come to West Bengal from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, a car used in the incident has been seized. The forensic team collected samples from inside the car parked in front of the New Town police station. The car owner had rented it out and is currently at the New Town police station.

Significant developments continue to emerge in the case. The extent of the brutality with which the assailants murdered the Bangladeshi parliamentarian can be gauged by the fact that after committing the murder, they dismembered his body. Anwarul Azim had been missing since the 13th during his visit to Kolkata. His daughter had tried to contact him, but when she couldn't reach him, she contacted her acquaintance Gopal Biswas in India, who then filed a complaint in Kolkata.

A grizzly act of murder

Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim was strangled to death on May 13th in a flat in New Town. The murderers were so ruthless they also inflicted blows to his head with a sharp weapon after the murder and dismembered his body to dispose of it elsewhere. The dismemberment was carried out on different dates - 14, 15, and 18 May - from the flat.

Two people were tasked with disposing of the body parts. Both individuals are currently on the run, making it difficult for police to locate the remains of the body. Small plastic bags were recovered from the New Town flat and there is a suspicion that body parts were transported in these bags.

Bangladesh's police force is also actively working to solve the case. Bangladesh's Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan stated at a Wednesday press conference in Dhaka that the murder of the MP at his Kolkata residence was premeditated. Both Indian and Bangladeshi police forces are cooperating to uncover the motive and identify the culprits, following all international protocols to get to the bottom of this case.

According to PTI, police sources reported that when Anwar entered the apartment, he was accompanied by two males and a female. CCTV footage shows the unidentified man and woman exiting the flat multiple times between May 15 and May 17, but the MP was not seen. Police stated that at least two of the three people who visited the flat with the MP later returned to Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladeshi police have confirmed the arrest of three individuals related to the case in Dhaka's Wari district.
