Thousands of Bangladeshi Hindus Gather in Jalpaiguri
Previously, over 1,000 Bangladeshi Hindus had reached the India-Bangladesh border at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, seeking to cross over into India. The BSF halted their attempts at the Satkura border. This incident occurred in the South Berubari Panchayat area of Jalpaiguri district. Following the event, the BSF increased its patrols in the area. The BSF, together with the BGB, negotiated with the group, who eventually returned. The BSF had set up a temporary fence here as this area lacked one. The presence of BSF soldiers in the area has been increased. Local Indian villagers are ready to welcome the Bangladeshi Hindu influx.
Bangladeshi Hindus Claim Their Homes and Temples Are Being Burned
The gathered Bangladeshi Hindus are desperate to enter India. It is reported that this crowd of Hindus from across the border claims that their homes and temples are being burned. They have come to seek refuge in India. Meanwhile, local Indian villagers are wary of the influx, fearing it might strain resources, including food. Consequently, they are resistant to the entry of these Bangladeshi Hindus into India. On the other hand, Indian villagers have also gathered, and the BSF is trying to convince the Bangladeshi Hindus that such an entry is not possible.
