The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has listened to both sides in the proposed bulldozer action case concerning the violence in Bahraich. Following the hearing, the court deferred the matter until November 4 and instructed to keep the PWD notice on hold.
During the proceedings, the Lucknow bench ordered both the government and the victims to present their evidence and documents. The new hearing on this matter is scheduled for November 4, with the PWD notice still suspended until then.
SC Issues Strict Warning
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Supreme Court also held a hearing on this matter. During the session, the court issued stern remarks to the UP government, emphasizing the directive not to proceed with the bulldozer action. Those breaching the order should remain aware. The court had directed the UP government not to proceed with any bulldozer action until Wednesday. Just two days earlier, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had also suspended the bulldozer action for 15 days.
PWD Notices Issued
Following the violence in Bahraich, notices to demolish certain buildings were issued by the PWD. Notices were pasted on the homes and shops of 23 individuals, granting them a 15-day period to respond.
Background of the Case
In Bahraich's Hardei police station area, village Rehua Mansoor resident Ramgopal Mishra was part of a procession for Durga idol immersion on the evening of October 13, around 6 PM. As this procession passed through a neighborhood in Mahrajganj market populated by a specific community, an altercation erupted between two groups. Allegedly, stones were thrown from roofs, causing panic during the immersion. Amid the chaos, Ramgopal was shot from a rooftop, leading to his death.
