An AI engineer from Bengaluru ended his life by suicide, leaving behind allegations against his wife, in-laws, and systemic corruption within the judiciary regarding an ongoing case in Uttar Pradesh. Since yesterday, this incident has sparked discussions throughout the nation. In Bengaluru, a case has now been filed against Atul Subhash's wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, her brother, and uncle, officially commencing investigation into instigation leading to suicide.

Meanwhile, statements from Nikita Singhania’s family residing in Jaunpur have surfaced. Nikita's mother denied all allegations of harassment against her daughter and family when speaking to AajTak, stating, "All the allegations made are baseless. I will present all evidence before the world. Atul Subhash expressed his frustration towards us. My daughter could never tell anyone to commit suicide."

No Family Member is Guilty: Nikita's Uncle

In conversation with AajTak, Nikita’s uncle Sushil Kumar repudiated the charges, stating, "Nikita is not here right now, but when she returns, she will answer all questions. I learned through the media that my name was mentioned in the FIR related to Atul Subhash's suicide. However, I was not present in Bengaluru, nor involved in any way. We came to know about the case only from the media."

He further claimed, "No member of our family is guilty. The matter is in court, and whatever the court decides will be accepted. I live in a separate flat, and though I am Nikita's uncle by relation, I am uninformed about the detailed proceedings. The case has been ongoing for three years, and none of us have interacted with them during this time.'

Suicide Occurred on December 9 in Bengaluru

On December 9, Atul Subhash took his own life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his bedroom in Bengaluru. During this tragic incident, he wore a T-shirt emblazoned with 'Justice Is Due'. Prior to this, Atul recorded a 90-minute video and wrote a 24-page letter, attributing his suicide to his wife, in-laws, and the judiciary. Married to Nikita Singhania in 2019, they shared one child together. Within two years of their marriage, several serious cases were filed against Atul by his wife, including dowry harassment, murder of the father, and unnatural sexual exploitation. Atul accused that a demand for three crore rupees was made to settle these matters. Based on the victim family's report, a case under sections 108 and 3(5) of the BNS Act has been registered at the Marathahalli station, and investigations are ongoing.

Justice for My Brother

Atul’s brother, Vikas, expressed his desire for justice for Atul, stating, "I want justice for my brother. I hope for a legal process in the country that ensures justice for men too. I demand strict action against those corrupt in the judiciary because, if this continues, how will people hope for justice?"

Condemning systematic corruption, Vikas argued that hope for justice can only be maintained if every fact is considered and equally vetted. He alleged, "Justice can only be envisaged when decisions are fact-based; otherwise, the public's faith in the judiciary will deteriorate. It could lead to a societal fear of marriage, where men are perceived as mere ATM machines."

Scatter My Ashes in the Gutter: Atul Subhash

Before ending his life, Atul Subhash demanded in his video that his wife and her family be barred from coming near his body after his death. He requested his relatives to withhold his ashes until his alleged prosecutors are punished. Demanding justice, he urged that if his offenders aren't penalized, they should dispose of his ashes in the gutter outside the court.

In the video, Atul Subhash also accused a judge from Jaunpur of harassment and bribery. Atul claimed judge's clerk demanded bribes for court appointments. He further alleged the principal family court judge exerted pressure on him for paying three-crore maintenance, with subsequent demands for a five-lakh bribe, promising case settlement by December. Atul leveled multiple grave accusations against the judge in his video.
